Here is a great sounding and playing 5 string bass. This one is a Yamaha BB1025X 5 string model that features a highly resonant Alder body with a gorgeous Caramel Brown high gloss finish and a Black pickguard. The BB1025X has employed a 3-piece body structure with which its bridge is placed on the center piece in order to translate the maximum amount of string vibration to the body. Instead of simply gluing wood pieces, they insert a Maple plate, called "Spline", into a slot on its joint sections. By doing that, Yamaha has succeeded in obtaining as much body vibration as 1-piece body with this 3-piece body structure. The 34" scale 5-piece Maple/Nato bolt-on neck has a 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard with a sleek solid fast feel. The pickups are the passive Yamaha "Alnico V Split Coil/Ceramic Single Blade" type and they give the bass a round clear tone with excellent clarity and sustain. The bass also has Diagonal Body Thru Stringing, where the strings are angled 45 degrees at the saddle to reduce the stress and secure their tension.
